Concreting machinery manufacturing major Ajax Fiori is always known for its innovative approach to the technological solutions provided to its customers since its inception. Incorporated as a collaborative venture between Ajax Engineering, India and Fiori S.p.A Italy in 1992, Ajax Fiori Engineering (I) Pvt Ltd has come a long way in the last 25 years of its successful journey.
Debasis Bhattacharya, Head –Sales, Marketing & Product Support, Ajax Fiori Engineering (I) Pvt Ltd says, “We were the pioneers in bringing the technology of self loading concrete mixer (SLCM) in India which revolutionised the way of concreting for small and medium requirement of concrete for all types of infrastructure projects. This was the period when mechanisation was not fully adopted by the construction Industry and most of the concreting work was done manually.”

According to Bhattacharya, initially, there were apprehensions in the minds of the customers regarding SLCM technology. However, he adds, “The product proved its reliability and efficiency and today Ajax Fiori’s Argo Self-Loading Concrete Mixer finds its place in most of the construction sites in India.”
The phase at which the concept of SLCM has made inroads is remarkable in the construction industry and this is the most sought out technology for small and medium concrete requirements in India, claims Bhattacharya. “Today around 5 per cent of the total cement consumption in India is by our SLCM and still there is a possibility to explore niche market for these products,” he reveals.
Unique features
Ajax Fiori’s flagship product, the SLCM namely the Argo Series is a unique machine, combining the functions of a loader, mobile batching plant and transit mixer, and is suitable for small to medium volume concrete requirements. The machine self-loads the aggregates, weigh batch, mix, and transport and place the concrete. The main advantages of these machines are, all these are being done with a single operator.
The SLCM is equipped with a concrete batch controller, which allows the operator to batch measured ingredient quantities into the concrete mixer, and thus produces the right quality of concrete as recommended by the concrete mix design. Further, according to Bhattacharya, with features like all-wheel drive, 4-way steering and tight turning radii, these highly manoeuvrable and mobile machines can be deployed in any kind of terrain. Ajax Fiori’s SLCMs are available in 3 models viz. Argo 4000, Argo 2000 and Argo 1000, with 4 cu. m, 2 cu. m and 1 cu. m batch volumes respectively. SLCMs are also available in variants as tunnel dumpers and transit mixers.
Success story
Argo Series highly manoeuvrable concreting machines are a familiar sight at various infrastructure development projects including irrigation, roads and bridges, railways, housing and urban development, power and industrial projects to name a few across the country.
Recently, Ajax Fiori’s Argo Self-Loading Concrete Mixers played a key role in completing the world’s largest single location solar power plant which was installed in Tamil Nadu with a capacity of 648 MW. More than 100 Ajax Argo SLCM were deployed to concrete around 3,80,000 foundations for solar panels. This shows the potential of these machines and they are proud to be a part of many more nation building projects in the country.
