Ammann India’s Asphalt Recycling Seminar in Mumbai brought together industry professionals to promote sustainable road construction, emphasising RAP technology’s role in lowering emissions and contributing to India’s green infrastructure ambitions.

In response to the growing need for sustainable infrastructure, Ammann India, a pioneer in road building technology, held its Asphalt Recycling Seminar in Mumbai, the financial capital. The event brought together industry executives, technical experts, and partners to discuss how cutting-edge recycling technology would shape the future of eco-friendly road construction in India.

As India accelerates its transformation to greener infrastructure, the necessity of circular construction methods, particularly for road development, has never been higher. The conference aims to address a crucial industry need by providing stakeholders with the technical knowledge and strategic clarity required to translate sustainability goals into actionable, on-the-ground results. From enlightening keynotes and technical deep dives to engaging panel discussions, the conference highlighted the future of road construction with RAP (Recycled Asphalt Pavement), particularly its use on Indian roadways. The event provided a collaborative platform for highlighting emerging trends, sharing best practices, and dispelling prevalent myths about asphalt recycling and sustainable road development.

Material management, temperature control, and binder renewal were among the key themes presented at the event, with real-world case studies demonstrating that RAP roads can meet or exceed traditional durability. Experts also emphasised the necessity of rejuvenating agents for proper binder integration, as well as the need for standardised rules, talent development, and better procurement methods to increase recycling in India.

Addressing the gathering, Dheeraj Panda, Managing Director, Ammann India, underlined the significance of sustainable innovation in shaping the future of road infrastructure. “With both global and Indian markets shifting decisively towards sustainable construction practices, technologies like asphalt recycling have become the need of the hour. At Ammann, our 150-year legacy of innovation drives us to deliver future-forward solutions that meet evolving industry demands and reduce carbon emissions and reliance on virgin resources. We’re proud to lead the way in India by enabling up to 100 percent use of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP), a testament to our commitment to environmental stewardship and cost-efficiency. As the government champions greener highways, our advanced recycling technologies are poised to play a pivotal role in making this vision a reality.”

Other notable speakers at the event included Dr Ambika Behl (F.I.E), Senior Principal Scientist, CSIR-CRRI, and Prof. Dharamveer Singh, Civil Engineering Professor at IIT Bombay, as well as Martinho Fernandes, AVP & Product Head – Asphalt Plants, Ammann India.  Their comments provided varied perspectives on addressing technical and operational problems in the field.

Currently, RAP utilisation in India is relatively low, often less than 30 percent. Ammann is committed to greatly increasing this, scaling adoption up to 60 percent and even 100 percent, which supports sustainability and delivers considerable cost and time savings following India’s overall infrastructure development ambitions.

The event concluded with a united call for industry collaboration, research, and actionable implementation, reinforcing Ammann India’s leadership in delivering smart, sustainable, and technologically advanced road-building solutions aligned with national priorities.
