Ramesh Babbar, President and Director of Columbia Machine Engineering Pvt. Ltd., discusses the company’s goal to double its revenue by 2026 while expressing optimism about the industry’s growth in light of the significant infra push.
How is Columbia complying with the sustainability requirements of the construction equipment sector?
Columbia’s equipment meets CAT-3 standards and is powered by IE-2 and IE-3 motors. This ensures that less energy is consumed and the machinery produces less pollution, therefore demanding less land to establish a factory.
Which are the innovations being added to your concrete equipment and palletizing solutions?
Columbia ensures to upgrade 20 percent of the parts used in the Concrete equipment year after year. As a result, a concrete machine developed in 2017 is completely changed and technologically advanced by 2022.
We have also done backward integration for mixing and batching. We now do mixing and batching for the base layer and the top layer both.
During corona, most of our customers came with a common concern of shortage of skilled and unskilled labour, also expressing a strong interest in automation. This resulted in Columbia introducing automated handling of the products and pallets for the base model SPM 20. We will very soon offer automated handling equipment with SPM20 for exports and the domestic market.
Can you shed some light on your state-of-the-art technology for case palletizers for material handling?
Case Palletizes was first introduced by Columbia in the year 1962. Since then, a lot of upgrades and innovations have been made in Palletizers. Columbia offers a range of Floor-level, High-level, Robotics and tracking solutions for all the models. Our Palletizers are CAT-3 compliant, and our safety standards align with international standards to make them highly dependable once installed.
What are your plans to add capacities to both existing and new equipment?
At Bauma ConExpo India’23, Columbia focussed on Half-Board Machines for our elite customers who are planning for an expansion. With that, we introduced mid and large pallet-size moulds designed for all Concrete Block Machines. With the expansion plans in mind, we already increased our manufacturing facility by 30% in 2021, and would further double the manufacturing premises by 2024. With this expansion, we expect to reach 100 crores by 2025-26.
