The floorings in any project are laid first before other interior work starts. It takes number of days to complete the interior works such as electrical fittings, furniture, colouring painting, and HVAC installations. Many agencies or contractors with their skilled and unskilled labourers are working on their field of activities. Because of this reason, possibility of damages to the flooring is very high and they need to be well protected to ensure timely project completion.

Conventionally, Plaster of Paris (POP) is laid on the flooring and removed after the completion of the job. POP has many disadvantages as it is cumbersome to lay and remove. Skilled labour is required for laying and is time-consuming; Disposal of debris after completion is major problem while removing or scrapping operation, chances of getting scratches to the tiles. Construction sites become shabby, uncomfortable and dusty.

Other alternative materials used for floor protection during construction like papers, used cloths or plastic sheets may be able to protect the floor from some of the minor damages but fail to provide foolproof protection.
