In an exclusive interaction, Dheeraj Panda talks about Sany’s latest innovations, advanced construction equipment, technologies, and commitment to expanding the electric-powered equipment range.
What are your views on Bauma, and what will Sany display/showcase?*
We have always regarded bauma CONEXPO as a vital platform to showcase our strengths and expertise. This event attracts enormous footfall and is a confluence of industry leaders from CE and the infrastructure sector, which helps us forge business ties and expand our customer base.
We will display a gamut of equipment, from our road machinery, mining equipment and earth-moving equipment. We will launch new products at bauma as we consider this a perfect platform to display our product diversity and strike a chord with customers and the industry.
All products are designed to stay true to the company’s “Quality Changes The World” vision.
How have the construction and infrastructure projects fared this year?
Construction and Infrastructure projects have been managed quite well this year thanks to the government’s growing interest and support. The sustained growth of urbanisation, major ongoing national highway and railway projects, metro projects, initiatives like Sagarmala and, most importantly government’s steadfast focus on construction projects are driving enormous demands for construction equipment.
How do advanced construction equipment and technologies add financial burden on the users?
Advanced construction equipment with the latest technologies can complete the most challenging jobs, even in rugged terrain. We must be cognisance of the fact that additional benefits imply a hike in cost too. Moreover, customers today look for the quality of construction equipment and realise that with quality comes efficiency and durability. We have always stayed true to our mission of quality changes the world by providing best-in-class equipment that ranks high on efficiency, productivity and versatility.
What are your thoughts on developing a digital platform for procuring projects, equipment, and contractors in semi-urban and rural areas?
This is a good idea as we will have a single platform to take care of all our needs and requirements, especially when our machines are on the ground in semi-urban and rural areas. The logistics and procurement process can become cumbersome in such locations. Since embracing digital technology is the ‘way of life’ today, it’s prudent to usher in such a platform in the upcoming construction equipment sector.
How to deal with such procurement challenges?
An essential aspect of a construction project’s success is equipment acquisition. Topography, logistics, technology, labour availability, and financial resources are a few factors that influence the sort of purchase we choose. The cost-to-profit ratio, the time needed to launch the project, inadequate planning techniques, and a lack of teamwork are some obstacles we face. However, it’s essential to remember that these obstacles sometimes present themselves. The process of acquiring equipment and projects is smoother now than in the past, thanks to guidelines established by the government and professionalism displayed by the parties involved.
Is Electric-power taking over fossil-fuelled equipment?
The cost-effectiveness of required technologies and stringent emissions restrictions were the driving forces behind the industry-wide electrification trend in construction equipment. Beyond the benefits already highlighted, electrification offers much more than environmental friendliness. The development of our unmanned products, which usher in a new era of better efficiency and accuracy, is technically supported by electric-powered machinery.
Since electric equipment has the inherent advantages of lower costs, fewer pollutants, and higher efficiency, the entire sector is reiterating its benefits. Sany Bharat is one of the few OEMs with a defined strategy for introducing electric CE in India. According to us, electrification of the CE market is a crucial prerequisite for the sector. Additionally, we have begun developing technologies like electric trucks and remote-controlled excavators.
