The flexibility offered by Aluminium extrusions has made it a popular choice for adding a dose of creativity in the construction industry
How are aluminium extrusion structures beneficial in construction?
Aluminium extrusions are widely used for architectural purposes in the building and construction industry across the world. Builders and architects are increasingly using aluminium extrusions in building projects due to aluminium’s excellent properties. The ability of aluminium to be designed and extruded into any intricate shape without compromising its quality or strength, is what makes it beneficial in the construction space. The malleability of aluminium allows it to be pushed through customized dies to make innovative products and parts. Complex shapes can be designed easily with aluminium extrusions thereby avoiding the need of further fabrication, welding etc.
Aluminium extrusions not only meet the structural requirements of the building but it also adds to the aesthetic part of it. Architects now have more opportunities to make construction creative. With the help of aluminium extrusions, innovative facades, doors, ceilings, curtain walling etc. are now being made to make buildings look more appealing. Above all, the recyclability of aluminium, which makes it a sustainable material, is also an important reason why the construction industry is increasingly adopting it.
Aluminium extrusions are therefore a preferred choice in the building and construction industry and the demand for aluminium extrusions is likely to rise in the coming future.
What are the advantages of aluminium extrusions?
- Design flexibility: Aluminum’s malleability allows it to be extruded into very intricate shapes and therefore allows maximum design flexibility.
- Light weight: Aluminium, being very light with 1/3 of the weight of iron, makes it an ideal choice for use in many products. At the same time, it is strong enough to be used in automobiles and aircrafts.
- Corrosion resistant: it doesn’t rust like steel and can last for decades. With anodizing, powder coating it’s surface can be protected much longer.
- Conductivity: Aluminium is an excellent thermal conductor in comparison to steel. This quality makes aluminium suitable for applications where heat dissipation is required particularly electronic components and
windows etc. - Finish: The surface finish of aluminium extrusions is excellent and with additional finishing like powder coating or anodizing, it meets any aesthetic requirements to suit the décor of the building.
- Wide range of application: Aluminium extrusions can be made into rods, pipes, tubes, etc. and are ideal to produce a wide range of products.
- It is 100% recyclable and is a “green metal”. Almost 75% of all aluminum ever made, is still circulating in the economy. Users of aluminium in construction and architectural applications know that by increasingly adopting aluminum, they are contributing to protecting the environment.
- The end-of-life value of aluminium is much higher than other materials, due to its high recyclability. Whenever aluminium is scrapped, its resale value is much higher than the resale value of other materials like steel and UPVC.
Aluminium extrusions not only meet the structural requirements of the building but it also adds to the aesthetic part of it. Architects now have more opportunities to make construction creative.
