Safety is becoming crucial in the wake of stringent government norms, believes Ajit Paralkar, CEO, ACD Machine Control. With a 50-year experience in the instrumentation industry, he has been the major contributor to development of all the products manufactured by ACD.
How do you look at the construction industry as a market for your products?
The construction industry is one of the major industries the companies cater to. In fact, two of its main products have been developed considering the emerging needs of the construction industry.
Wind monitoring switches
ACD’s wind velocity monitor/switch was prompted by some serious crane accidents during the erection of tall constructions, where wind condition appears to have been a major contributing factor.
Electronic vibration switches
Vibration switches are very important for crushers, to avoid any vibration-related accident. Electronic vibration switch is designed as direct replacement of mechanical vibration switches. These mechanical switches cannot respond to gradually increasing vibrations.
How do you see your products contributing to value over cost for construction equipment?
Equipment-failure cost is one of the major costs for the construction industry. Besides the additional equipment replacement cost, any major failure can throw the entire project into disarray due to disturbed timelines.
The company’s products serve as an early warning system for the equipment, giving an early warning before failure, thus enabling the user to take appropriate action in time.
What are the safety-related products and services you offer for this market?
Both products mentioned above wind velocity monitor/switch and electronic vibration switch are developed considering the safety of the users.
The development of wind velocity switch was prompted by some serious crane accidents during the erection of tall constructions, where wind condition appears to have been a major contributing factor.
Comment on the current safety standards being followed by the industry.
While safety is still at nascent stage in the construction industry, it has started taking centre stage in all projects given the entry of corporates and stricter government guidelines.
What are your expansion plans in India?
With safety gaining significance, safety features will soon be obligatory in all equipment.
The company intends to develop both products and make them available at such a cost that even smaller builders should be able to afford them without giving a second thought.
Considering the expansion of construction industry world over, there will be large export potential for these products.
Besides the additional equipment replacement cost, any major failure can throw the entire project into disarray due to disturbed timelines.
