Foam filling reduces carbon footprint
.

Trident is transforming the mining industry with a focus on safety, sustainability & total cost of ownership (TCO). It is using advanced telematics and introducing tyre solutions & best practices to increase productivity while reducing environmental impact, thereby achieving a more sustainable future.

From your observations at IMME, what emerging trends in mining machinery and technology do you see shaping the industry’s future?
There is a noticeable movement towards greener technologies across industries, including mining and construction. Along with an emphasis on increasing productivity, sustainability is receiving abundant attention. Even though electric mining equipment hasn’t been widely adopted as yet, electrification is also growing. Additionally, as digital frameworks become more integrated, telematics plays a bigger part in mining. This change is expected to increase the sector’s productivity, efficiency and overall output.

With the increased focus on sustainability, how are you addressing the environmental concerns in your product?
Pneumatic or air-filled tyres are prone to damage in demanding applications like mining, where underfoot conditions are harsh. Regular checks to maintain the recommended inflation pressure are essential to ensure the load-carrying capacity and service life of pneumatic tyres. Given the operating conditions, especially in underground mining, this is often a pain point. As a result, tyres have to be replaced well before they are fully worn. Since Tyres are made using Petroleum based products such as Synthetic Rubber, Carbon Black, Processing oils & chemicals, they have a significant carbon footprint. We’ve developed two distinct tyre solutions that improve efficiency, safety and sustainability.

Trident International Pvt. Ltd _ B2B

First is Tyre Filling or Foam Filling. Tyre filling involves injecting a pressurised reinforced polyurethane foam composite into a pneumatic tyre to replace the air, making it puncture-proof, maintenance-free, and lengthen its lifespan. This technique eliminates the requirement for continuous pressure monitoring. Tyre failures are frequently caused by overheating due to underinflation, and our technology helps ensure that tyres reach their maximum potential lifespan, thereby contributing to the sustainability of this consumable product.

Our foam-filling method now uses renewable materials, resulting in a more environmentally responsible product. We previously employed a two-component method that was entirely made from petroleum. Now approximately 30-40 percent of our input materials are non-petroleum-based, lowering the carbon intensity of foam filling by up to a third. The Second solution is Solid Tyres that replace pneumatic tyres. Besides being puncture proof, solid tyres are highly damage resistant and have extra deep treads resulting a service life that 2 to 4 times higher. Solid Tyres are ideal for slow speed, short haul and high load applications and made using natural rubber.

Furthermore, to promote sustainability, we have collaborated with authorised recycling firms to develop a circular system that ensures consumers do not dispose of tyres themselves. Instead, tyres are either recycled or repurposed in regulated facilities in an environmentally responsible manner avoiding improper disposal.

What innovations did you showcase at IMME 2024?
Our offerings are geared primarily towards underground mining applications rather than overground mining. We offer puncture-proof tyres for various underground mining, We have application and equipment specific products for use in soft rock mining, such as coal, or hard rock mining, which includes minerals like copper, manganese, and other hard metals extracted in India. How does your telematics product enhance the performance and lifespan of industrial tyres for operators? We developed a patented device that captures the real-time performance of industrial tyres, providing operators with feedback on operational parameters like tyre temperature, tyre service time and distance travelled. Our goal is to provide a monitoring system that allows users to make timely decisions and maximise the lifespan of their tyres.
