Rajdeep Mitra, General Manager – Sales at Liugong India, shares the company’s latest product innovations unveiled at Bauma India 2024, discusses its sustainability-driven future, and outlines the role electric vehicles will play in transforming the construction industry in India.

Can you tell us about the new product launches and how they will contribute to your growth?

We introduced three groundbreaking products that highlight Liugong’s commitment to innovation. We launched the 4100 D Motor Grader, a robust machine designed for the toughest road construction tasks. This product will significantly enhance efficiency in infrastructure projects.

Secondly, we unveiled the 838H EV model, our electric Wheel Loader that aligns with our goal of promoting green technology in the industry. We were honoured to have the largest Green Zone at Bauma 2024, showcasing our push towards sustainability. This is part of our broader strategy to incorporate electric solutions into our product lineup, helping reduce emissions and carbon footprints.

We also launched the 45-ton Reach Stacker, a versatile machine for heavy lifting and material handling. These three products— the motor grader, 838H EV Wheel Loader, and reach stacker— represent our next step in expanding and committing to technological advancement in the construction equipment space.

How is Liugong addressing safety concerns with its EV models?

Safety is paramount in our operations. All our electric vehicles are equipped with robust safety features, including ROPS/FOPS cabins for operator protection and automatic battery cutoff systems to mitigate risks in case of malfunctions. Advanced telematics systems enable real-time monitoring and enhance overall safety. Furthermore, our machines are designed to comply with both Indian government regulations and stringent international safety standards. By incorporating the latest safety technologies, we prioritise operator protection and ensure a secure and reliable working environment.

Liugong is known for its consistent product updates. How does the company ensure its workforce can handle these new technologies?

We strongly emphasise skilling programs, which are crucial for ensuring our workforce can adapt to evolving technologies. At our Indore-Pritampur plant, we run regular skill development programs. We collaborate with various institutions to provide training to operators and technical staff, who are the backbone of our industry. With skilled operators, machines can perform to their full potential.

We also offer certifications to those who complete the training programs, helping them advance in their careers. These training sessions are conducted throughout India, and we aim to keep them ongoing every month in different regions.

Apart from electric vehicles, is Liugong exploring any alternative fuel solutions?

While our current product line does not include machines exclusively powered by alternative fuels, we have successfully developed hybrid models that seamlessly integrate electric power with traditional internal combustion engines (ICEs). In the near future, we will introduce our 10T Hybrid Wheel Loader and 100T Hybrid Dump Truck, incorporating this innovative hybrid technology. Our global R&D team is actively pursuing advancements in this area. These hybrid models offer enhanced flexibility for our customers, allowing them to select the most suitable power source to meet their specific operational requirements. Notably, our recent releases, the 926 EV and 22T Cable Excavator, have generated significant interest within the construction equipment market.

What are Liugong’s expectations for the Indian market in 2025?

The Indian construction equipment OEM sector anticipates significant growth in the coming years, driven by robust government support and a thriving economy. Government initiatives to bolster infrastructure development, including road, port, and airport projects, create a promising market landscape. We aim to capitalize on this growth trajectory and secure a substantial market share within the industry. We are optimistic about the industry’s future and expect continued flourishing over the next three to five years.

Liugong has proudly held the position of India’s leading wheel loader manufacturer for the past three consecutive years. This achievement underscores our commitment to excellence and drives our ambition to maintain this leadership. We are also actively pursuing the top position in the motor grader segment and anticipate narrowing the gap with our competitors in the coming year.
