Primary steel producer Sunvik Steel has recently launched Readyfix which is expected to revolutionise steel usage in construction industry as readymix has done for cement. Vivek Kejriwal, Chairman and Managing Director, Sunvik Steels Pvt Ltd talks about his company’s business and growth plans.
product portfolio includes readyfix, fly-ash bricks, sponge iron, billets, power and TMT bars. What is the purpose each of these?
It is an integrated process as the primary product is a raw material for the concurrent product to realise, thereby each of them serve a significant role to complete the entire process till TMT is manufactured. Also we capture the flue gases to produce captive power and the waste flyash is converted into bricks and blocks to be utilised for construction purposes. Readyfix is a forward integration product where TMT is being used to deliver cut and bend steel as per required BBS without incurring any pilferage and loss in quality.
What factors that have helped Sunvik Steels become a distinguished player in the industry?
Being a primary steel manufacturer, maintaining quality standards, goodwill and commitment have helped us to retain our reputation in the market.
How do you emphasise on excellence in quality, safety and environment-friendly measures? How do you achieve these standards in your operations?
We have internal audits quarterly based on ISO guidelines from an internal auditor and an annual external audit done by a third-party agency. We also have consultants and processes in place to keep a check on quality parameters.
You have invested more than Rs.50 crore to set up a waste heat recovery captive power plant of 10 MW which reduces the greenhouse gas emissions. Could you tell us more about this?
Recovery of waste heat from flue gases help us to reduce fuel consumption by half leading to an average of 6 per cent saving. By doing so, we also keep the environment pollution free and the biggest advantage is the plant runs uninterrupted 24 hours leading to increase in production efficiency. Reusing the flyash generated to manufacture bricks and blocks enables us to get green credits. Today we are also a member of Indian Green Building Council.
How do you implement the use of state-of-the-art technologies in your manufacturing process?
Our entire plant is based on German technology. We are an ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001 certified company. Sunvik billets and TMT are also BIS approved.
How did the company perform in 2014-15? What are your expectations in 2015-16?
What are your expansion plans?
We have generated the revenue of Rs. 313 crore in 2014-15 and expecting a sales turnover of Rs.350 crore in 2015-16. We are strategising to expand our market to harness growth of Sunvik TMT. Sunvik received a principal approval from State high level clearance committee for a Rs.550 crore expansion project.
How do you strategise to stay ahead in the industry and how are you working at building a strong future?
We have introduced Readyfix which is expected to revolutionise steel usage in construction industry as readymix has done for cement.
Apart from the infrastructure and material availability, we also have an experienced team of engineers in-house, who extract the bar bending schedule from a reinforcement drawing using the latest American tools and software.
In addition, we have an expert laying team to lay the readymade steel at site. Hence, readyfix is a complete end-to-end solution for a customer, not just cut and bend steel. We believe this process of cut and bend steel is the future and readyfix will soon stabilise like readymix.
