Schwing Stetter, a leading concrete equipment maker, has announced that its operator training school at Chennai has been recognised by the Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship as the first training centre to certify pump operators under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana initiative scheme in India.
The certification will help to provide more job opportunities across rural India and creating more skilled labour for the infrastructure industry, according to a company statement. The company has also partnered with the Infrastructure Equipment Skill Council (IESC) and unveiled a Centre of Excellence (CoE) to provide training to students and unemployed youth under PMKVY. The IESC is a brainchild of the ICEMA (Indian Construction Equipment Manufacturing Association) where construction equipment operators will receive a certified degree from the IESC for skilling of equipment operation and maintenance.
The company targets to provide training and jobs to two lakh candidates in three years, in areas such as road construction, concreting and material preparation / processing.
Recently, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship visited the Schwing Stetter Operator Training School to review and understand the training capabilities being conducted on a regular basis.
VG Sakthikumar, Managing Director, Schwing Stetter Sales and Services said, “Schwing Stetter India is in the process of expanding the operator training school beyond Chennai and we have already planned to start similar courses soon in Delhi, Kolkata, and Pune in phase one. Subsequently we will be starting in other locations also.”
Anand Sundaresan, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Schwing Stetter India and President ICEMA said, “India is running a deficit of skilled operators and mechanics for operating construction equipment. Over a period of time, IESC has a target to train over 2 million operators and mechanics”.
