In an exclusive interaction, Dynapac highlights the challenges for the timely completion of projects and efforts taken for environmental safety.

Today the quality of the roads in development is a concern. How would you view the role of EPC companies in addressing this?

The government has launched several infrastructure projects, and more recently, construction designs have been enhanced for reduced costs and longer road life. Due to the high volume of projects, numerous new EPC firms have entered the national highway construction market. To achieve the greatest outcomes, operators need to be more knowledgeable about building methodologies, such as levelling systems, and process control need to be improved.

Our growth in terms of developing 50 km of roads per day is slowing down. What, according to you, is not functioning as expected?

The number of project beginnings we observe at the start of the season determines the 50km target. This is crucial since the prolonged monsoon of recent years has affected the best time for construction. The contractor community must also deal with additional challenges like financial closure, environmental delays, etc. We can accomplish the goals thanks to the strength of Indian infrastructure firms and the available technologies.

How can changing the contractual and bidding processes fill this gap and speed up the construction process while ensuring quality?

Subcontracting agreements and a defined schedule for project completion must be included in the bidding process, particularly for the HAM contracts. It makes sense to form a consortium for major projects with diverse competencies to meet the various requirements successfully.

How are the construction equipment companies and project management experts mitigating the risks regarding the project, safety, and environment?

As far as we know, India is putting into effect a new general safety regulation for construction equipment, with the following phase set to go into effect by 2024. The goods are significantly safer and simpler for the operator’s thanks to these standards. These regulations set comparable expectations to the CE, which focuses on the workforce’s health and safety. Additionally, we have strict requirements for product usage with minimal noise, fumes, and other emissions that may cause problems in the neighbourhood. Recycling is promoted to increase reuse and lessen quarrying’s adverse environmental effects. In conclusion, while much has been done, much more has to be done to make buildings sustainable.
