Eimco Elecon unveils fuel-efficient piling rigs for the infrastructure

Eimco Elecon elaborates on its path in the infrastructure business and the growing demand for construction equipment in an exclusive interview.

Please elaborate on the variety of solutions and equipment displayed at bC India 2023.

We showcased the Piling Rig Model EC216. Eimco Elecon is the first Indian company that manufactures piling rigs indigenously and completely under the “Make in India” and “Atam Nirbhar Bharat” programs. Currently, players in this business either import and supply these machines or import CKD kits from neighbouring countries and assemble piling rigs in India. Our rigs are “designed in the USA and made in India.” This platform enabled us to introduce these machines to Indian customers and the nation’s infrastructure industry. Our technology partner, CZM, is a premier piling rig manufacturer and US market leader in foundation drilling rigs. At bc India, our clients can witness and understand the unique features of our machines, like the High Torque weight ratio, the anti-shock valve, the 3 rotary speeds for all types of soil and rock strata, the heavy and wider rotary gear, the foot mast, the unique Kelly bar design, and many more, in our displayed piling rig model EC216. We have also launched a higher-range model, the EC267, for the Indian market.

What influence do you expect the evolving infrastructure market to have on your business?

Looking at the booming infrastructure equipment market, we see ourselves well positioned for the customers who are seeking high-end, reliable, and durable products at reasonable costs. With an aim to remain a step ahead in technology, Eimco Elecon has been a forerunner in providing reliable equipment to Indian customers in the mining and construction spaces. Our market leadership in underground mining equipment through our products and effective, prompt aftersales support will help us in construction equipment as well. Our newly introduced pile-driving rigs have started carving their position in the market through their amazing site performance and unique features. Our company can do complete justice to these high-end products by manufacturing them through its world-class manufacturing facility located at Vallabh Vidyanagar near Anand in Gujarat and by providing effective service through a wide-spread network. Given the rising demand, we believe we shall be able to get a sizeable chunk of the market in the days to follow.

Currently, our piling rigs are working with piling contractors. Other customer segments, like machine hirers and corporations, are being added to our offerings.

Can you tell us about your manufacturing capabilities and investments in India?

Eimco Elecon has a large, state-of-the-art infrastructure facility at Vallabh Vidya Nagar, around 70 km from Ahmedabad in Gujarat. We have been manufacturing underground mining equipment for over 45 years and have maintained market leadership with more than 90% market share in that equipment over the years. We are also a TPM-certified company from JIPM (the Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance). We have an in-house plasma cutting machine, a shot-ballasting machine, world-class machine tools, a paint shop, an R&D facility, well-equipped assembly lines, and a test-bed setup for extensive testing of our machines. Quality is the way of life at Eimco. We also have a largely closed cabinet storage system for dust-free, compact storage and easy, quick, and cost-effective material retrieval. Our well-equipped training centre provides training facilities for our staff and customers. We are currently manufacturing Articulated Loaders, Side Discharge Loaders, Load Haul Dumpers, Rocker Shovel Loaders, Low Profile Dump Trucks, Universal Drilling Machines, Continuous Miners, Roof Bolters, and Chair Lift Man Riding Systems. In Piling Rigs, we are manufacturing model EC 216, and we have already launched the next higher model, the Ec 267. The EC 125, a smaller version of this, will be available in India soon. As a result, we’ll grow on both sides—the upper and lower—with a wider product bouquet.

What distinguishes your cutting-edge solutions on the market?

Our piling rigs are more productive, fuel efficient, and have various features to their credit. These include a high torque to weight ratio for extremely high productivity with minimal fuel consumption, an anti-shock valve for smooth hard rock cutting with extra protection of hydraulic components during spin-off for long hydraulic component life, three rotary speeds for all types of soil and rock strata, heavy and wider rotary gear with an increased Kelly to rotary contact ratio for effective torque transfer to ground engaging tools, and a heavy and wider rotary gear with an increased Kelly to rotary contact ratio for effective torque transfer to ground engaging tools. Cost-effective replaceable rotary internal locks; a unique Kelly bar with special Hardox wider locks; hydraulically operated cat head folding and mast folding arrangements for fast assembly; and many more. The three-piece mast allows customers to convert this machine to a short-mast version that can be used in underpasses, under bridges, and other tight spaces.

These features result in high productivity and a lot of savings in total life cycle costs, including a big portion of fuel costs.
