Asphalt offers cost advantage and accelerates construction, besides providing long-lasting pavements

Asphalt road surfaces offer many benefits, including cost efficiency, reduction in noise pollution and comfort. Using asphalt materials in road construction and maintenance can improve the benefits for all road users and the environment. The advantages of asphalt simply add up to superior value. Asphalt is safe, smooth and durable. It has low initial costs, lasts long, and due to its recyclability, has residual value greater than other pavements.

Making roads stronger
Asphalt concrete is commonly used for road surfacing, base courses, parking lots, airfields, runways, etc. The solution consists of high-quality aggregates mixed with a bitumen binder.

“Our asphalt products are designed to optimise quality, performance, durability and sustainability for paving and road applications, which enhances the overall performance of roads constructed by us,” says Ratan Lal Kashyap, Sr. Vice President – Procurement, G R Infraprojects Ltd.

Asphalt solutions make roads stronger due to maximising the use of recycled asphalt (RAP), expanding cold and warm asphalt technologies via various methods, formulating optimisations for bitumen consumption and improving performance and ride ability with polymer modified bitumen (PmB).

Adding value to construction
A number of industry players have introduced use of new construction technology and construction methodologies that have brought in value in terms of quality, cost, faster execution and reuse of reclaimed material at site, which has resulted in environmental benefits.

G R Infraprojects Ltd (GRIL) ensures cost effectiveness and project durability by the use of foam bitumen technology, which involves bituminous paving mix recipe by injection of bitumen in the form of foam into the aggregates predominantly constituting the scrapped or milled aggregates from the existing road. Foam bitumen technology involves bituminous paving mix recipe by injection of bitumen in the form of foam into the aggregates predominantly constituting the scrapped or milled aggregates from the existing road.

Advantages of this technology are utilisation of up to 90 per cent of reclaimed aggregates, thereby reducing the fresh material requirement and reducing the carbon footprint by using cold mix and lesser emission of fumes or greenhouse gases – GHG (CO2, SO2, NOxand more).

“One of the important technology which helps in making the roads smarter are introduction of road milling technology i.e. milling machine has helped use of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) which was a waste and damage to environment when dumped on road side,” says Kashyap.

“Warm mix technology is another technology adopted where the flexible pavement can be laid at a lower temperature without affecting the workmanship and quality of road.Fleet of future ready hot mix plants with options of producing several types of mixtures with additive dosing facilities, keeps the carbon emissions limits with minimum emission and pollution to the environment,” he adds.

In accordance with prescribed specifications and regulations, we have developed the best practices and innovative tools to protect the environment and lower our asphalt concrete carbon footprint.
