Hydrocyclone-based RD HydroWash for better sand washing capabilities

TERRA Sand is one of the most promising and exciting washed manufactured sand brands of Pune, Maharashtra region. Over a short period of time, the company has emerged as one of the most sought after supplier of washed plaster sand and washed concrete sand. With a capacity of washing about 200 tons per hour, TERRA Sand is one of the largest suppliers in Pune. We spoke to Sangram Deshmukh, Santosh Mate Patil and Ranveer Udhan, partners and owners of TERRA Sand about their choice of machinery for the manufacture of washed sand.

“We have been in this line for the last 25 years and have been involved as government contractors, builders, contractors for long. Both of us being civil engineers, we were not satisfied with the quality of sand available in the market, and we were looking for sand as per prescribed IS Codes and standards for our own projects. Currently, crushed sand is trendily used in the sand market. Crushed sand, due to high content of fines is not suitable for concrete. Looking at the trends in availability of raw material, we anticipated an exponential growth in the demand for quality washed sand, as washed sand ensures better quality concrete with a minimum quantity of cement being used, and it was apprehended that the quality construction companies and RMC would demand washed sand. After a thorough market study, we finalised a 200 TPH sand washing capacity Hydrocyclone-based washer from RD Crushers named RDH200. 

The eventual market growth and the present market demand suggest that we were right in our decisions. Rahul Deshmukh, Managing Director, RD Group helped us to plan and execute the entire project. We believe that for a project to succeed, the machine manufacturers have to be involved as they understand their machines better and also have experienced similar projects across the world. Deshmukh, as an owner, understands what a businessman like me requires. With his hands on approach, he gave us practical suggestions and models of operation and was with us till the execution of the project. 

We zeroed in on a Hydrocyclone-based RD HydroWash because of the better washing capabilities and less wastage of sand particles. We liked the concept that only the very small particles are washed away and that there is a definite cut-off for the same. Though capital cost was higher, running cost and savings on better salvage of material ensured we had a profitable operation.

• • Sometimes our input silt content goes very high. Other impurities too could come depending upon the source of rock
  • Efficiency of the washing process
  • Water consumption – did not want this to be over the limit

  • 150μm content is limited to 12 percent and 75 μm below 3-6 percent by weight, giving a far superior final product with consistent grading
  • Rich cement Mortar up to 35 Mpa can be achieved 
  • Perfect for High Performance Concrete (HPC) and Self Compacting Concrete (SCC), this ensures very specific high quality work/clients

Though, there is not much of service related requirement for this machine, we get regular inputs from the company for the hydrocyclone settings and water flow management. This ensures best performance of the machine with regards to the requirement at that time. 

We expect the post monsoon season to bring in higher demands and higher growth for our TERRA Sand brand. We are confident the same shall happen with our robust and dependable RD Washer.
