Jungheinrich India expands, modernises Bhiwandi logistics facility

Jungheinrich India aims to set the trend for modernisation in the Indian logistics market by introducing AGV machines.

Expansion of facilities in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra
In order to meet the growing demand for their products and services in India, Jungheinrich India has recently opened a new facility in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra. The new integrated facility includes equipment and spare parts storage, a Workshop for Rental and UE Equipment businesses, and a state-of-the-art training centre. The inauguration of the new facility was attended by Mr. Christian Erlach, Member of the Management Board – Jungheinrich AG; Mr. Manojit Acharya, Managing Director, Jungheinrich India; Mr. Stefan Brehm, Vice President Asia-Pacific; Ms. Ute Brockmann, Deputy Director General – Indo German Chamber of Commerce and Mr. Rajesh Nath, Managing Director – VDMA India, as well as more than 400 customers, dealers, business partners and Jungheinrich India team members. Bhiwandi, which is located 50 kilometers north-east of Mumbai, is considered a hub for intralogistics and logistic warehousing in India and represents an ideal location for the site expansion, due to its strong customer base and nearby seaport.
Emphasis on modernisation and automation
In Indian industry, diesel-powered forklift trucks and old-technology warehouse equipment are often the most common. However, with India’s strong economic growth in recent years, there is a growing need for modernisation and automation in the logistics market. Jungheinrich India aims to set the trend for modernisation in the Indian logistics market by introducing new machines, such as automated guided vehicles (AGVs), into the market.
Manojit Acharya, MD Jungheinrich India, stated, “Our aim is to position ourselves as an automation solutions provider in the growing ecosystem of the Indian logistics market.” Christian Erlach, Member of the Board of Management of Jungheinrich, added, “In addition to the capacity expansion, we are also introducing a new product line for the Indian market and thus significantly increasing our current market share.” The Indian market for material handling equipment is currently around 20,000 units a year and is likely to grow at a doubledigit Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR).
