Miniature Circuit Breakers – MCB: MCBs or Miniature circuit breakers have almost replaced fuses in newer consumer units. Their main advantage is that they can be manually reset without having to replace wire as in the case of the traditional fuse.
 
The tripping of MCB or Miniature circuit breakers indicates that there is some problem in the circuit. Either it has been overloaded or a short circuit has occurred somewhere in the system.
 
Switch off the main power supply and all the appliances connected to the circuit to ensure it is not overloading. Then reset the Miniature circuit breakers. Finally put on the main switch of the consumer unit. If the MCB resets itself instantly once again, then it means a fault is still occurring. The fault must be cured before switching on the MCB.
