MMRDA to build 43-km long Versova-Virar Sea Link in Mumbai

The Versova-Virar Sea Link will be built by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

MMRDA will now develop the project to build the Versova-Virar Sea Link. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has authorised the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) to build the 43-kilometre Versova-Virar sea link.

The proposed sea connection project contains 4+4 sea lanes connecting the Versova end of the under-construction Versova Bandra Sea Link Project to Virar, as well as connectors, for a total length of 85.27 kilometres.

After it is completed, the link will be able to handle 60,000 vehicles each day. In 2026, the one-way toll for a car from Versova to Virar is expected to reach roughly `1,000.

To prevent complications such as substantial damage to the coastal environment and human habituation during or after construction, the MSRDC planned to extend the proposed Bandra-Versova sea link until Virar.

The sea link is anticipated to cut travel time between the two regions in half.. It is also possible that the journey time between Nariman Point and Virar would be reduced from three hours to one.

It was also resolved at the MMRDA meeting that a loan of `30,473 will be obtained from REC Limited for metro building projects. Officials also agreed to create thorough project reports for several road projects in Mumbai and Thane.
