Ramky Infrastructure Limited (Ramky) receives the prestigious FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry) Smart Urban Innovation Award 2024 in the “Sustainable Cities” category.
This honour recognises their important contribution to the treatment and disposal of legacy leachate in Jawahar Nagar, Hyderabad, Telangana.
The prize was given during the 5th edition of the Smart Urban Innovation Awards, which coincided with the 7th edition of FICCI’s Cities Summit to promote dialogue and innovative solutions for major urban infrastructure development concerns. Ramky was one of ten organisations, including corporations, government agencies, and educational institutions, selected from a record-breaking 98 entries to work towards the nation’s smart cities aim.
Legacy leachate, a poisonous byproduct of waste decomposition, is a severe environmental issue because it contaminates neighbouring water bodies and groundwater. Ramky’s creative solution included a 2,000 KLD leachate treatment unit to solve this issue. This project also involved the restoration and stabilisation of ponds near the waste management facility. Notably, the project faced a considerable challenge: the initial projected volume of legacy leachate in Hyderabad exceeded 849,780.88 kiloliters (KL).
“We are honoured to receive the Smart Urban Innovation Award 2024 under the Sustainable Cities category,” says Y.R. Nagaraja, Managing Director of Ramky Infrastructure Limited. “This recognition reflects Ramky’s unwavering commitment to providing urban solutions that pave the way for a sustainable future for our cities. The Hyderabad leachate treatment plant, the first of its kind in the country, is a testament to this commitment, setting an industry benchmark for future projects. We remain dedicated to developing and delivering infrastructure solutions that contribute to a cleaner and healthier tomorrow for present and future generations.”
FICCI, established in 1927, is India’s largest and oldest premier business organisation. It acts as a networking and consensus-building platform within and across sectors, and it is the initial point of contact for Indian industry, politicians, and the foreign business community.
