The 60-tonne crawler offers a 35 per cent additional production capacity, along with 22 per cent of additional fuel efficiency.

Volvo Construction Equipment has introduced the EC550E crawler excavator in India. With a Tier 3 engine, the machine is ideal for the Indian market, allowing customers to benefit from industry-leading performance, productivity, and efficiency. “Delivering the type of durability and performance more commonly expected from a 60-tonne excavator, customers can get ready for up to 35 per cent more productivity and 22 per cent more fuel efficiency, combined with superb operator comfort and outstanding levels of uptime,” Dimitrov Krishnan, Head of Region India at Volvo CE, explained.

Up to 35 per cent higher productivity

The EC550E is an ideal machine for mass excavation and heavy duty digging, increasing productivity by up to 35 per cent. This Volvo Crawler Excavator, available with a variety of optimal-sized
buckets, sets new industry standards and is the ideal partner to wide-body 38-40t hauling equipment, reducing the number of required passes and dramatically improving cycle times. The EC550E delivers digging forces and lifting capacity more commonly found in a 60-tonne excavator, as well as superior swing torque and speed, thanks to its impressive engine power. It has an ultra-durable undercarriage with a long lower frame, a strong upper frame, and reinforced digging equipment with a large pin size, making it the ideal choice for handling heavy loads in the most demanding applications. The optional wider retractable lower frame adds stability and increases ground clearance.

Independent Metering Valve Technology can increase fuel efficiency by up to 22 per cent.

Customers can improve their fuel efficiency by using the next generation electro-hydraulic system with Independent Metering Valve Technology (IMVT) and engine/pump optimisation, which reduces engine rpm while increasing power. The main control valve employs Independent Metering Valve Technology, Volvo’s most recent pioneering innovation and the industry’s most advanced hydraulic system. It provides significantly more precise control than a conventional system and contributes to up to a 22 per cent increase in fuel efficiency. Volvo offers a variety of services to help customers reduce fuel expenditure and carbon emissions of their operations even further, including fuel efficiency reports and operator training initiatives, to support the machine’s fuel-efficient performance.

Excellent comfort and security

Volvo has long been known for providing the best in operator control, comfort, and safety, and the EC550E is no exception. The ROPS cab exceeds industry standards for this class of machine, with features such as a 14-air vent climate control system and ergonomic seat with 9 adjustment settings, allowing operators to step inside the best cab on the market. Boom and arm bouncing reduction technology also significantly reduces machine shock, resulting in more comfortable and productive operator performance. A 3-point seatbelt with a reminder alarm alerts the operator
if they are not buckled up improves safety. A seatbelt cutter/ hammer aids egress through the emergency exit.

The rear-view camera and 10 LED lights strategically placed throughout the machine, including the rear, enhance the already best-in-class visibility. Furthermore, the optional Volvo Smart View system employs front, rear, and side cameras to provide a real-time, overhead view of the machine, which is especially useful when working in tight quarters. Behind the controls, operators can easily select and adjust a number of functions based on their personal preferences and the task at hand, such as boom down speed, which is ideal for precision tasks requiring optimum control, and Boom/Swing and Boom/Travel priority.

Work harder for longer

Customers can rely on the EC550E to deliver maximum machine availability thanks to a slew of uptime-enhancing machine features and Volvo dealer support. For example, the oil bath pre-cleaner keeps the engine clean and performing well, especially in dusty conditions. Furthermore, by turning off the engine only after the turbocharger has cooled to the proper temperature, the delayed engine shutdown helps to keep the turbocharger in top condition. The tropical cooling system is designed to regulate the temperature of hydraulic oil when working in tropical conditions.

CareTrack, Volvo’s telematics system, also assists customers in maximising machine uptime and lowering repair costs. Customers can keep track of their machines themselves or let Volvo handle it through ActiveCare. The Volvo Uptime Center monitors machines 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and notifies customers if preventive maintenance is required. When maintenance is required, grouped filters and a batterycut-off switch ensure complete disengagement of the equipment, making servicing quick and easy. High visibility guardrails and handrails, 3-point right-hand access to the upper structure, bolted anti-slip plates, and an optional walkway ensure maximum convenience when navigating the machine.
