Procurement trendsWith shortage of rainfall in many parts of the country and uncontrolled urban development, there has been an increasing pressure on water supply authorities to provide clean drinking water. In addition, the industrial growth that the country is aiming at, is putting additional pressure on the need of treated water. Explaining on the current procurement trends Nitin Kirloskar, Head-Corporate Marketing, Forbes Marshall Pvt. Ltd. said, “The need of treated water has been recognised by government and private sector and both are investing in water management solutions, effective sewage or effluent treatment etc. The trend is positive but a lot needs to be done on ground to make it happen.”
Buying factorsNitin Kirloskar observes that there are couple of things one must consider while procuring water treatment solutions. “The most important aspect is the energy and environmental perspective,” he adds. Is the equipment higher on energy consumption, is it eco-friendly, how much would be usage of chemicals in the treatment process, what methodology is being used to treat the chemicals that result as a part of the treatment process – are some of the queries to be sorted out while making procurement decision. “The principle of reduce, reuse and recycle needs to be followed at every step of design of water treatment solution. The availability of resources like water, electricity and space also matter,” Nitin Kirloskar suggests.
Major innovationsThe Ganga action plan or the recent steps taken by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) indicate that the government is serious about waste water treatment. CPCB is now insisting for on-line monitoring of critical parameters in the industrial Effluents Treatment Plants (ETP) and Sewage Treatment Plants (STP). They are further insisting that the data so collected should be transmitted to their servers and they are going to monitor the levels of pollution on-line. Lot of innovative solutions, both in terms of analysers and software are coming up to meet these challenges.
Nitin Kirloskar adds, “Many industries are going for Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD), where they will reduce-reuse-recycle total water available to them. It means they will not be returning even a drop of water to the environment outside their factories.”
Municipal wastewater can be collected and treated to a level where it can be used for agriculture, landscaping or lawns etc.
Partnering with industryForbes Marshall offers variety of solutions for the water treatment industry which include flow metering solutions, on-line water and wastewater analysis solutions and a whole lot of software solutions for data transmission, analysis and diagnostics. “Forbes Marshall being established player in water and wastewater segment for couple of decades, has a good reputation, installed base and nation-wide service network that makes us a preferred supplier of these solutions. Our products meet the required standards and can comply with the rules and regulations of pollution control authorities. Many of our customers treat us more like their business partners and take advice from us on their processes when they plan their projects,” Nitin Kirloskar concludes.
The principle of reduce, reuse and recycle needs to be followed at every step of design of water treatment solution.
