Established in 1996, power tools major Hitachi Koki India Pvt Ltd (HKI) provides a wide spectrum of power tools and accessories that cater to the varied requirements of the Indian industry. The company has recently introduced an extensive product range with AC brushless motor technology. In an interview with B2B Purchase, HKI’s Executive Director & Secretary Dattatraya Joshi speaks about this breakthrough technology, competitive scenario and future plans.

How do you see the opportunities for power tool industry in India?
The future for powerful tool industry looks very bright and we hold a very optimistic view for the future of this industry. The recent initiatives from government like ‘Make in India’ and GST implementation will provide the opportunities for industrial growth. There is also major push for infrastructure development and these initiatives will provide the right impetus and conducive environment to the power tool industry to boom.

Apart from introducing innovative product range, what are the other aspects you look forward to meet customer satisfaction?
We have a reputation of introducing innovative products to the power tools industry. We have recently introduced an extensive product range with AC brushless motor technology which is breakthrough technology. We have introduced Carat Construction Tools (a brand of Hitachi Koki Japan) and started marketing Matabo brand (German power tool company acquired by Hitachi Koki Japan). We have been offering tools with low maintenance and offering quality service to our customer. As the power tools require service, the prices of our spare parts are the least. We are strengthening and expanding our service centre network to provide the services nearer and fastest to customer.

What is the speciality of your power tools? How your products are different from others?
Hitachi power tools are known for their quality, durability and low maintenance. The AC brushless technology tool which we have introduced to the market is maintenance free and avoids the frequent change of carbon brush which in turn reduces the idle time of the tools increasing the output and productivity.

Who do you think are your biggest competitors in the world of power tool industry?
In India all the global players of power tools are present and we match the best in the industry in terms of quality, range and service. We are the second biggest player in the Indian power tool industry after Bosch.

How would you like to beat the competition?
We have aggressive plans for the future. We will be widening our range of product and bringing latest technology to Indian market. To keep ahead with the competition, we have taken some proactive measures and introduced new product lines like Carat Construction Tools, Mungo Anchor Fasteners and Hitachi Hand tools. We have achieved considerable success with this new addition to our range. This product lines offer synergy to our power tool business and help us increase our market share by opening up new avenues and markets for business growth.

What is the next power tool the market could expect from Hitachi Koki in near future?
We have introduced AC brushless technology tools which can be easily classified as tools with next generation technology or power tools for future generation. AC brushless tools have helped us to establish technological superiority in the industry. We will also be marketing and promoting Metabo brand tools for the niche and upper segment market and special applications. In Metabo, we have introduced heavy-duty tools with Marathon motors and cordless tool driven by powerful Li-Ion heavy-duty battery which is more powerful and last longer.
