Krishnamurthy Ravi, General Manager, MGM Varvel Power Transmissions Pvt Ltd, talks about the company’s milestone moments and future plans to setup a manufacturing facility in India.

How has your experience been at Excon?
Excon has always been a good experience for us and this for the third time that we are participating. We are looking at customers from the construction and material handling segment and we have displayed new products.

Could you brief us about your new products?
MGM-Varvel consists of two Italian companies. We have a plant based in Chennai. MGM is into motors and brake motors. Varvel is into gear boxes. We recently tied up with a Turkish company for Imak, which is mainly for addressing the construction and Material Handling segments. So, these products are basically for conveyors, inclined conveyors, and skip hoists. We have displayed these products at this expo.

What are your expectations from the industry in 2020?
It has been a very tough year for the construction industry. So, we are very hopeful and positive for the upcoming year and we are getting positive feedback from the customers, so things will pick up.

What are the core areas for you when it comes to manufacturing?
We are addressing on construction – road mixing plants, construction asphalt plants, concrete mixers, pavers etc. We will be mainly focusing mainly on concrete mixer plants for pavers , tower cranes in the upcoming year.

What is the uniqueness of your brand?
MGM is the number one brand in Italy for the brake motors. We have specialized products for material handling, hoist, skip hoist and cranes. With these products, we are number one in Italy as well as number three or four in the world.

In India, we have supplied more than 20,000 brake motors in the market with competitive prices. These products are fully manufactured in an automated plant at Italy, they can produce thousand brake motors in a day.

Are you planning to manufacture in India in the near future?
The manufacturing will probably take two-three years down the line. We are hopeful about it and pushing our parent company for it.
