World-class crushing and screening solution provider Hazemag looks at India as one of its fastest and largest growing market. So far, it has been working with contract manufacturing in India. Soon Hazemag expected to have its own manufacturing unit here, revealed the company’s Head Business Development Shantanu Banerjee. Excerpt from his interview with B2B Purchase:

With a humble beginning in 1842, Hazemag has emerged as one of the leaders of crusher design and control technology. How do you look at this journey?

Trust and credibility are the basis for Hazemag. Since its inception in 1842 from foundation of iron ore foundry to its invention of world’s first impact crusher, thereby inflating its territory with an array of crushers through several mergers and acquisitions. Now with Sinoma as the majority shareholder of this group, it simply followed the clear rules of trust and credibility.

Hazemag has always focused on providing unique solutions to some of the daunting challenges that the crushing industry faced. Being a German company, one of the key assets that we had and continue to have is superior engineering solutions. The founders of the company initially studied the crushing industry at length and found the pertinent issues that was being a hindrance and then went ahead to design a machine that could tackle those issues.

Marcus Heinrich, the new CEO has been consistently pursuing the strategy adopted by Hazemag Group with his main focus on the technological leadership in established products and consequent supplement of the product portfolio together with the further development of the plant construction in the crushing technology and the expansion of the global service activities. Marcus is going to increasingly focus on synergies with the groups of the shareholders Sinoma and Schmidt Kranz.

Hazemag is an efficient cluster network providing holistic solutions driven by individual companies. It majorly dissociates itself into 4 diverse segments: Hazemag Minerals with crushing, grinding, drying, screening and conveying; Hazemag Mining dealing with horizontal crushing and conveying, gallery reconstruction, mine development, drilling and HRE; allmineral into Mineral Beneficiation; and IMS associated with hard rock mining.

Hazemag Group is a global supplier of plants for the processing and beneficiation of raw materials in the building industry and of primary raw materials, such as coal, potash, ores, platinum, diamond as well as of solutions in underground mining for heading drifts. With several subsidiaries, Hazemag is represented in the markets of North America, China, South Africa, Australia and India. In addition customers are intensely supported in their projects by a worldwide net of partners.

Hazemag India focuses mainly on complete range of horizontal crushers and roll crushers. These are of fixed, semi-mobile and mobile designs. Even today our primary focus continues to be looking for simple solutions to complex issues that help our customers crush coal, limestone and other minerals with lowest cost per ton expenses. One of our USP is that, over the years we have evolved our design according to the needs of the industry addressing the pain point, thus making us a dynamic solution provider.

What about your presence in Indian market?

Hazemag looks at India as one of its fastest and largest growing market. With the government focusing towards a new wave of industrial rush, the coal crushing sector has a huge potential in the near future.

The company over the period of half a decade has made an impactful footing into the Indian crushing industry and supplied 37 units ranging from 200 TPH to 2,000 TPH. We also have a healthy order book for this year along with overwhelming enquiries for the next year. The wide range of capacities that our machines generate, help us provide customers with multiple quantity options with similar machines, thus helping them reduce their capital investment.

Our motto is to provide the Indian market with a crushing solution that will benefit the customers with ease of operation. This will not just increase the quality of the output but also eventually result into lesser investment made by the customers.

How is the acceptance of your products in India?

We are looking to change the ways Indians have crushed minerals. Like any other radical solution to begin, we had faced some initial resistance, but at the end of the day customers realised the benefits. As the Hazemag machines defy some of the older believed laws like 2-stage crushing and single side loading, initially it was difficult for customers to come in terms with this new approach. Some of the customers have gone ahead to say, and I quote “This can only happen in animated videos and not in reality.” But after seeing the on-site performance of the machines, customers had no option but to come in terms with the modern methods of mineral crushing.

The machine’s brilliant on-site performance time and again has gradually broken the hesitation towards this new generation technology and today people are more in acceptance of this kind of a solution available in the market.

What is Hazemag’s strategy on establishing itself in the Indian market?

To be honest our strategy is superior performance and to be ahead of customer expectations.

Hazemag as a company has never believed in sales promotion or extensive marketing strategy – for us our biggest promotion is the Hazemag machines that run in the various mineral fields across the country.

We do not believe in concepts like differential pricing or modifying our design every now and then. We hold on to our tried and tested design and look to undertake research at our own cost and not at the cost of our customers. Only after a machine has shown satisfying results in the worst of conditions, we offer it in the market.

Thus, since inception till date the only strategy that we follow to establish ourselves in any market including India is solely performance and customer satisfaction. We are also planning to introduce more variants of feeder breakers customised to Indian demand and other product lines in India. Considering the forthcoming growth in cement and construction market some customised variants of feeder breaker and impactors will have considerable demand.

What makes your feeder breaker stand out from rests?

Our feeder breaker over the years has evolved in terms of performance in small and big ways and today it has come to a stable point where mostly all critical areas of crushing are being addressed.

Our feeder breaker is a single-stage crushing solution which does not need any other secondary crushing to produce size up to (-) 50 mm size. One of the major advantages with this design is that, this is a skid or crawler mounted mobile crusher. With negligible amount of civil or structural work, the customer does not have to make any substantial additional investment and one can literally plug and crush with the machine. Once the project is completed the wastage on structural that cannot be moved is eliminated. This also helps us limit the on-site commission time to only 5-7 days.

The machine allows you to facilitate double side loading thereby bringing in the concept of a natural hopper. The Hazemag feeder breaker does not require a dedicated hopper for itself – the dump trucks can come in from two sides and start dumping on either side of the conveyer, thereby forming a natural hopper.

The feeder breaker comes with a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) which allows the customers to run the machine without having to keep a full-time operator for the same. Unlike other machines, in case there is any un-crushable material that comes with the mineral, the feeder breaker stops automatically and you can use the feed chain reversal system to remove the material and continue with the operation.

 What are the USP of your screening solutions?

The screening solution Wobbler allows segregating the desired output and screens it out before it goes into the crusher. This helps to push in more crushing material at the same time. There is a wobbler screen attached with multiple rotating shafts that are mounted with oblique segments which is integrated with the machine.

As per the required output size, the spacing of the shaft and the wobbler can be matched and the same can be flushed into the main pan feeder.

Do you have any manufacturing facility in India?

As of now we have been working with contract manufacturing. The designs are provided and a stringent quality check is done from our end. We follow a no compromise policy when it comes to quality of the machine.

With the Indian market growing at a steady pace, and with introduction of our other product lines we do have plans of setting up our own manufacturing unit here soon. Today we are in a position to supply machines within 60 days of order. Our own manufacturing facility will allow us to further reduce our delivery time.
