IntroductionPortable construction is described as alienate to construction with brick, mortar, sand, water, aggregate etc. Porta or pre-fabricated cabins can be used as temporary commercial accommodations, hospitals, hotels, power projects, marketing site offices, exhibitions, selling kiosks, huts, toilets, and even kitchens. Today porta cabins are available in all forms and perform as good as conventional construction.

Advantages porta cabinsTalking on the unique advantages of portable cabin technology Ankleshwar Nanchahal, Director, Tinny Craft said, “Porta cabin technology saves time and money in comparison to conventional one. These cabins are much suitable for areas such as hill stations and sea shores where construction of permanent structures is not allowed.”
In by lanes of metro cities one may use container or bunk houses for work as well as for storage. “The major benefit is you may re-use it, re-install it, no big loss at all,” asserts Mr Nanchahal.   
Future outlookAccording to Mr Nanchahal, “The future for porta cabin is encouraging and there are tremendous scopes.” However, he feels, there are many technological advancements yet to take place in the field of porta cabins as far as Indian market is concerned. He said, “Motor car or caravan-type accommodation to attach with your vehicle and move around is yet to take happen.” Such innovations are expected to increase the demand of porta cabins. At the same time, such cabins can meet the demand of poor people who needs shelter. Even Disaster Management Teams can use them. 
“International concept, quality, finishing are yet to take shape. Till date such standards are not in practice though foreign customers are demanding but our mechanical set-up is not meeting the requirement,” Mr Nanchahal. However, he assures, “It will visible soon.”
Proactive govt. initiativesDue to its enormous advantages, the industry expects the government should popularise the concept of porta cabins. When the present government is on a mission of setting up toilets across the country, port cabins can be an answer. However, Mr Nanchahal observes, “The government needs to be more realistic while placing tenders for porta cabins for toilets. There is no such material available within the stipulated range of Rs. 3,266 which can last for 10 years that also without maintenance!”
