Established in 1992, MEC SHOT has emerged as a key player in the field of shot blasting under the able leadership of A K Modi, the dynamic Managing Director and driving force behind the company’s rapid growth story. The company manufactures air-operated or airless shot blasting machines, robotic shot peening machine, blast room system, painting and baking room, vacuum blaster, and dust collector for protection of environment.
Shot blasting of locking fastenersLocking fasteners, nut, bolts and washers requires smoothness, free from burrs and required degree of surface roughness for zinc or chrome plating.
Flaws, cracks etc. moreover the flatness and surface roughness are also important to be maintained for fasteners. This increases the critical requirement of abrasive blasting on job. Earlier this was achieved by 7-tank process which has been now against the pollution norms.
MEC SHOT has developed automatic air-operated blasting machine for the deburring and surface preparation of locking fasteners for consistency in repeatability. This abrasive blasting machine is featured with rotating Tumble Basket and fixed with gun oriented at different angles depending on the job profile.
The machine works on the suction principle of abrasive blasting. The lifted abrasive gets mixed with the compressed air in the blast gun to strike the job to be cleaned. The locking fasteners are loaded and unloaded on revolving tumble basket. The tumbling fasteners get blast cleaned by fixed gun. The abrasive get recycled automatically in twin cyclones for fine media separation and transferred abrasive from storage hopper supply abrasive continuously and uninterrupted blasting operation. The dust generated during the blasting operation is trapped in pleated bags of dust collector and clean air is let out in atmosphere thus keeping the environment eco-friendly.
Roll etching machineThe rolls are etched for generating desired surface roughness so that the sheets being rolled out can have inbuilt roughness to facilitate proper bonding of paint.
During the rolling process, the roller looses the surface roughness due to friction so it becomes essential to etch the rolls periodically for maintaining desired roughness on steel sheets.
The rolls being of harder nature, pressure type abrasive blasting machine using aluminium oxide, chilled iron grit of 12-25 mesh or steel shots of coarser grade are quite popular. In order to blast the roller’s barrel, gun reciprocation and job rotation movement is featured in the machine. The job is loaded or unloaded outside the cabinet on the motorised work car placed on track extension. Fabric bag type dust collection system is incorporated to keep the dust emission level within permissible limit.
It is very important that roughness should be uniform so media separation or classifier is incorporated for sorting out the broken or uneven shots. This particular machine can be used with different shot sizes for getting different Rz/Ra values.
The blasting equipment is featured with motorised workcar with motorised job rotation facility. The roll is loaded outside the blasting cabinet on workcar which moves on track extension. The blasting nozzle reciprocates while job rotates in blasting cabinet. The operator is to simply load and unload the job. The abrasive recovery is automatic and fabric bag type dust collection system is incorporated to keep the dust emission level within permissible limits.
