Our products are developed giving emphasis on health, environment and safety.

Mumbai-based Cosben Equipment deals in material handling equipment such as conveying and feeding equipment, filtering systems, valves and actuators, aeration systems for fluidisation, pressure control equipment, and vibratory equipment. Amit D Popatwala, Managing Partner, Cosben Equipment, talks about technological advancements in the field of dust conditioning.

How technologically advanced your conveyors are?
Making a screw conveyor is not a rocket science! What is important is how we produce it. There are many manufacturers in India. In Mumbai alone, there are atleast 200 players claim to be screw conveyors manufacturers, but they are merely fabricators not manufacturers. We are the manufacturers because we produce screw conveyor in an industrial way. All critical operations like welding, drilling and cutting are carried out on our customised state-of-the-art robotic machines. There is no human involvement in the entire process so lesser chances of error. Humans are involved only when it comes to assembling of the parts, sand blasting and painting.

How do you see the acceptance of your dust conditioners?
Our dust conditioners are designed to enable suppression by mixing it with water and transportation of, dust from asphalt plant, dust from foundry industry and fly ash from power plants in open truck. It is the combination of paddle and helical flight which are used for mixing and conveying. Though, technology-wise there is hardly any difference from products across the globe, we are second to none in terms of performance and operations.

There are growing environmental concerns as well…
Our products are developed giving emphasis on health, environment and safety. For example, we have added safety features like interlocking with inspection hatch in our screw conveyors. Also addition
of zero-speed switch enables customers remotely monitor operations of screw sitting in their cabin.

Apart from that by introducing dust conditioner and bag splitting machine, we are trying to take care of the environment by reducing the pollution. Bag splitting machine is provided with the inbuilt dust collector that ensures no dust goes out and the bag cutting is done in such a way that there is hardly any thread generation after the bag is cut open. That is the uniqueness of our design! The capacity is also higher than what is available in the market. With our machine, one can cut up to 540 bags in an hour that is about 25 tonnes.

Why more and more OEMs should procure the products from you?
Cosben stands for higher benefits at lower costs. In other words, we are offering European quality at Indian price.

How is that possible?
Localisation of components brings the cost down for our end-products. Our every component like drives, motors, gear boxes, outer pipes, end bearings, hunger bearings – all are indigenously developed.

Who all are your major OEM partners?
You name it and they are our customers! Some of our OEMs include Schwing Stetter, Ajax Fiori, Apollo Infratech, Amman Apollo, Akona Engineering, Venus Industries, Maxmech, KYB Conmat, Macons, Gamzenplast, Singh Constructions and Neptune Industries.
