C A Sunny, Managing Director, Pressmach Infrastructure Pvt Ltd

Chennai-based Pressmach Infrastructure Pvt Ltd specialises in design, fabrication, integration and commissioning of various type of projects encompassing site office, project office, training centre, time office, temporary and semi-permanent structures with all amenities. The company’s Managing Director CA Sunny explains the product offerings and new launch.

You started off by manufacturing electrical insulation components for diesel generators. What made you to diversify into construction of prefabricated buildings?
The scope for dismantleable and reerectable prefabricated house in India is huge especially in the infrastructure field where speed of construction is very important for temporary structures to initiate their site activities. It started off with an idea of making a bigger enclosure same as the smaller version for the diesel generators after visiting countries such as China, Hong Kong and Singapore. Our first project was in the year 1993 when we built a prefab at Neyveli and from there on with rigorous R&D over the years we kept developing new product lines to achieve speed of construction and quality products at affordable cost.

After completing 22 years in the industry, how do you see the difference in the demand for prefabricated buildings then and now?
The infrastructure in India has been developing over the years, off-course there was a bad year or two but the scope for development is always there.

Could you name few companies where you have designed and delivered prefab structures?
Larsen & Toubro, BHEL, Ascendas, Afcons, Everendai, SPCL, LNW, Michelin Tyres, Boeing, Toshiba, Praxair and many more. We continue to help all the major infrastructure companies in India with temporary prefab solutions for their projects either as a new product or with relocation.

You mainly provide readymade solutions, roofing and wall panels. How do you look at the performance of the industry?
The scope of development in infrastructure in our country is evident. Hence the performance is also good.

Did you add any new product to your diverse portfolio?
If so, please explain its features. We are now making electrical houses (E-house) for housing electrical panel in portable version and low cost maintenance free portable cabins made out of 25 mm thick hollow polymeric panels.

Could you brief us more about this E-house?
E-houses are metal insulated enclosures custom-built to suit the clients’ requirement for housing the electrical panels, switchgear, transformer, battery rack etc. These are skid mounted and an alternative for traditional on-site building construction because of its quick installation, commissioning, cost effective and start-up time. These cabins because of its mobility can be easily relocated and installed close to its source or output. We are also having a tie up with a UK-based Indian firm Acrastyle Power for manufacturing and installation of the equipment.

What are the application areas of this newly launched product/solution?
E-houses are used in power plant, steel plant, mines, petrochemical companies etc.

What will be your strategy to place this product in the market?
Through direct marketing and advertising.

Brief us about your manufacturing capacity. Do you have any expansion plan in pipeline?
With more than 400 people on board, we have already completed over 1,700 projects and every year we are handling more than 150 projects. We have the manufacturing capacity of 115 tonnes per month for steel fabrication. We also have our own production line for sandwich panel and roofing sheet manufacturing.
