According to Kranthi of Vibrant Construction, recycling materials used in road construction is crucial because all aggregates’ costs have risen, and waste disposal has become a significant concern.

Can you tell us about the latest asphalt innovations?
Some exciting innovations that have found their way into commercial production are milled asphalt from existing roads, in other words, recycled asphalt by 50 – 60 percent in the mix using cold or hot mixing.
• Laying of asphalt at a lesser temperature, saving fuel while heating.
• Use of plastic waste as filler.

How does your asphalt range set you apart in this industry?
We’ve been in this business for a long time. As a result, we understand the industry’s requirements and strive to provide a diverse range of equipment, including WMM plants of various capacities, Asphalt Plants of multiple degrees, Bitumen Sprayers and Boomers. Very few people can boast of this range in India presently.

How is your organisation handling the sustainability aspect?
We do not face such demands from sites as our product is only one among the many pieces of equipment used in road construction. However, we ensure guidance to the operators and supervisors at the site on the operability and maintenance of the equipment so that the downtime is reduced and the availability of the plant is increased. We have a trained workforce who can also guide the clients remotely so that the client gets maximum support at all times.

How are the procurement and engineering challenges addressed?
We are not facing any crisis in procurement and engineering. Still, we are continuously on a learning curve to keep up with the latest developments in the market and keep abreast of customers’ requirements.

Another aspect to look at is the market for equipment buyback and the costs associated with this particular market. I want to highlight that since we are a relatively young company, we haven’t yet dealt with any such major issues in this regard.

What are your thoughts on recycling and reusing in your industry?
The recycling of materials used in road building is critical because the cost of all aggregates has risen, and trash disposal has become a big issue. Recycling and reuse become more acute as the economy becomes more environmentally friendly.
