L&T and Komatsu present the WT 80KL, a massive water sprinkler

For the first time in the Indian mining industry, L&T Construction & Mining Machinery and Komatsu India Pvt. Ltd. introduced the large-size Komatsu Water Sprinkler WT 80KL at Singareni
Collieries Co Ltd. (SCCL). This model was created as a retrofit for Komatsu’s 100-Ton Dump Truck HD785-7, which is manufactured in Chennai. This has extended the life of used dump trucks that would ordinarily be scrapped.

This reflects Komatsu and L&T’s commitment to sustainability, environmental protection, and safe mining operations. Yasunori Fujii, MD, KIPL, and KA Sravan Kumar, Head-Product Support, L&T presented the sprinkler to SCCL senior officials at the Manuguru OCP in Telangana. This water sprinkler will be used to control dust in mines and on haul roads.

A water cannon outfitted as a fire-fighting machine can also be used to wash trucks. The watercannon attachment is mounted on the machine’s front side and is operated hydraulically at about 90 degrees slew and 70 degrees elevation to throw water a distance of about 60 metres.

The sprinkling device, which is mounted on the machine’s back, has a spraying capacity of 18 m wide and 9.5 m away. This larger sprinkler covers most areas of haul roads, reducing the number of
passes and saving fuel in the long run. Integration of this water sprinkler and cannon system with Komatsu’s Dump Truck HD785-7, a proven model for its performance in the mining industry
worldwide, will be an added advantage and improve customer satisfaction.
